Freshers Week Winter Semester 2025/2026

From Monday, October 6, 2025, to Friday, October 10, 2025, the Fachschaft will organize a freshers week for all computational linguistics students in their first semester (bachelor’s or master’s).

From Monday to Wednesday, we will meet in front of the Mensa to have lunch together. On Monday at 11:00, Tuesday and Wednesday at 11:30. The meeting point is marked with a green pin on the map, and you can recognize us by our beautiful “Fachschaft Computerlinguistik” sign.

After a general introduction to the studies on Monday, we offer two preparatory courses on Tuesday and Wednesday.
In the programming and technology preparatory course, we will set up your laptops together, learn about helpful tools, and maybe even program a little something. This (in conjunction with Friday) will ensure that you are technically well equipped to start your studies!
On Wednesdays, the math prep course will review the most important topics from school and prepare you for the math lecture in the first semester.

On Thursday, there will be a group breakfast, a campus tour, and other fun activities so that you can get to know each other and us better.
We meet on Thursday at Im Neuenheimer Feld 306, Seminar Room 19 (often abbreviated as “INF 306, SR 19”). We have marked the building on the map with a light blue pin. Inside the building, you should be able to find SR19 using the university’s signs (it is located on the first floor). We will also put up arrows on some walls to help you find your way.

On Friday, there will be an introduction to the technical infrastructure, which you should attend in order to get a computational linguistics account. In addition, if you want, we will have dinner together at the Marstallmensa and go on a pub crawl.
On Friday, we will meet in a different building and in a cooler room (marked with a purple pin): Im Neuenheimer Feld 325, Computer Pool (= CIP Pool = ZIP Pool).
